Cognition Engineer Apprentice

Remote · Part-time / Project-based

This is an apprenticeship for someone who wants to specialize in Cognition Engineering. You'll work directly with the founding team on real client work — designing memory systems, agent behaviors, and runtime patterns — while being mentored in the emerging discipline.

What You'll Do
  • Assist in designing and testing EMUs, triggers, and memory schemas
  • Help implement agent flows using SOMA / Memrail primitives
  • Run experiments to understand how changes affect behavior
  • Contribute to internal documentation and playbooks
  • Support demos, prototypes, and client presentations
Who You Are
  • Solid programming skills (Python preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs or AI systems
  • Strong systems/architecture intuition
  • Genuine interest in cognition, memory, reasoning
  • Clear communicator who can explain complex ideas
Nice to Have
  • Coursework in ML, cognitive science, or symbolic AI
  • Open-source contributions to agent/AI projects
  • Writing samples or talks on technical topics

Applied Cognition Engineer

Remote · Contract / Full-time

Work directly with clients to design and implement cognitive systems. You'll translate business needs into clear cognitive architectures, then build them using our SOMA AMI™ toolkit. This role requires both technical depth and the ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Lead client engagements from discovery to deployment
  • Design agent architectures tailored to specific domains
  • Implement and iterate on memory systems and triggers
  • Document patterns that become reusable across projects
  • Collaborate with research and infrastructure teams
Who You Are
  • Experience shipping LLM-powered systems
  • Comfortable in ambiguous, client-facing situations
  • Strong Python and systems engineering skills
  • Clear, empathetic communicator
  • Interest in cognitive architectures and human-AI interaction
